The Jedi Bendu Schism was a schism in the Order of the Jedi Bendu, the group that helped to establish the Order of the Whills on Ashlan Four. The event was brought on by political corruption and what some Jedi Bendu perceived to be as a betrayal. The ancestors of the Ophuchi Clan, a group of religious hermits on Tatooine, were part of the Great Order, established a Ophuchi sanctuary on Tatooine after the schism broke the Great Order into two individual orders.[1]
Thousands of years later, during the Invasion of Utapau in 22 BBY, the Ophuchi Clan remembered the schism as an event that helped define and reshape the history of the galaxy. The Ophuchi also claimed that the event was covered up by the Galactic Republic, causing the knowledge of it to be lost.[1]
