The Duel in the Ophuchi sanctuary was a duel that took place in 41 BBY between Sarus, the leader of the Ophuchi Clan, and the Sith Lord Darth Maul in the Ophuchi sanctuary on Tatooine.[1] Maul, whom Sarus believed was the Dark Lord of the Sith, attempted to kill Shmi Skywalker and her unborn son, Annikin Skywalker, but Sarus fought him off. Sarus attempted to locate Maul for a number of years after the attack, but he gave up searching in 32 BBY.[1]

Nineteen years later, in 22 BBY, Maul, along with the Guardians of Lettow, attacked the Ophuchi sanctuary again. His goal was to locate and capture Annikin Skywalker, as Maul wished to aide Skywalker in his supposed destiny to destroy the galaxy. Maul encountered Sarus again and tortured him, but Maul and the Lettow were eventually cast away by Ussej Padric Bac.[1]
