Dewbecca was the Grand Master of the Jedi Order following the Conclave on Ossus and the resulting Jedi schism during the Alsakan Crisis. Dewbecca assumed the role of Grand Master of the Order in the wake of the schism during the convocation on Ossus, which saw Grand Master Banik Kelrada flee from the Order. After helping to reform the Order, Dewbecca returned to Kashyyyk and lived in the Shadowlands for a number of years.
Dewbecca returned to the Jedi Order in 12,978 BBY, during the Hutt War, and was re-appointed to the Jedi High Council. He was stationed aboard a space station orbiting Bothawai when the planet was attacked by the Hutt Empire, and he led the defense of the station during the battle. He was captured by a group of Dark Jedi and taken to Ando Prime, where he learned that Kelrada had become the leader of the Dark Jedi of the Bogan. Kelrada spared his life and sent Dewbecca back to Ossus to tell the High Council that Banik was alive and leading the Bogan.
